It’s that time of year again! The ever popular and ever delightful time to choose 3 words for 2018. Rather than making resolutions, choosing 3 words can help you chart a course for the next 365 days. Your words should inspire action, thought, mantras and goals to keep you keeping on. Thank you Chris Brogan for the idea. I’ve been a fan since 2014.
My words for 2017 were Composed, Travel and Dude. I give myself a C and two B’s, in that order.
My 3 words for 2018 are Aspire, Arrive and Awesome.
Aspire means to direct one’s hopes or ambitions towards achieving something – to set one’s heart on. If you read my last blog post, Crossing one bridge at a time, you know I’m embarking on the path of freelance consultancy. Having spent the last 15 years in large organizations, I’ve decided to scale back and down, yet work hard for myself. As a result, I have a renewed sense of self and purpose. I know where I want to be in ten years and that is running my marketing consulting business. So time to get started towards building that. Wish me luck and happy to network!
For the past year, part of my morning ritual included reading my daily devotional, “The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge” by Tony Dungy. In several of the readings, he talked about our obsession with running. He was referring to chasing after things, such as houses, cars and luxury items. Yet, we never feel fulfilled. He contrasted this with arriving. In part, Dungy means we are missing out on celebrating what we already have and the associated blessings and special moments. Or put another way, we are always running but never arriving. In 2018, I plan to recognize and celebrate the ‘I have arrived’ moments.
Why not make 2018 an awesome year? I have continuously seen references to the new year offering 365 blank pages to write them as we want. Sweet. Embraced. I plan to have Awesome written on at least 75 percent of my daily pages!
And now, it’s your turn! Share your 3 words in the comments section. You can also share via social media using #my3words. If you participated last year, I’d love to know how my 3 words helped to guide your path. Cheers, love and Happy New Year mates!
